30 Days In
Checked into rehab the end of July for 30 days. When I first got there I was scared and a wreck, my face was beat up from a fall on the stairs a couple of days earlier and the setting there was not exactly what I was expecting. Thought it would be more of a clinical setting but it was completely different. There was myself and 12 other clients with various addictions ranging from alcoholism and addiction to heroin, cocaine and marijuana. The first week I just wanted to walk out a few times, didn't think that was the place for me. I was wrong!
The facility was a large old house with some character and charm. I had assigned chores to do everyday along with hours of counseling and AA meetings. This was to provide some structure in my life so I could deal with life on a sober level. Mixed in with the meetings and counseling were other activities, trips to the park to play volleyball and a weekly visit to the library. All of this seemed to provide a sense of what a normal and sober life could be.
I spent my birthday there, the first sober one I could remember in many years. My daughter came up to give me a treat to share with everyone after dinner that day. Was the happiest birthday I've ever had!!! More later.
